Beastiary Report # 2

Name: Goomba
Threat Level: Pathetically low
Special Abilities: None. Strength in numbers perhaps. Some possess flight capabilities.
Known Locations: The Mushroom Kingdom




The Goombas are a species in the Mushroom Kingdom, resembling small brown mushrooms. A majority of the species choose to ally themselves with the Koopa Troop, led by King Bowser, against the Mushroom Kingdom. As a result, Mario and Luigi encounter quite a number of these on their journey to rescue Princess Peach. Still, many Goombas have no particular allegiance and have set up settlements, and a few like Goombario and Gommbella(seen below)have even aided Mario on some of his many quests.

The Goombas' favored form of attack seems to be rushing the enemy head on. Sadly, their speed maxes out at about a fairly slow walking pace. This makes them easy targets for attack. The most common way, and by far the easiest, is to jump on their heads, crushing them instantly. However, the cocky adventurer has been known to severely underestimate the Goomba, thus failing his jump and making himself Goomba bait.

Crushing them beneath a mallet is yet another favored method of Goomba disposal. Practice of such a method can be seen below.




Not much else can be said of the Goombas' offensive capabilities. The only positive comment that could possibly made, is their persistence. They will keep marching until death by stomping.



Goombas in the Koopa Troop have been outfitted with armor and other enhancements, the above picture being only two examples. Sadly, these upgrades do little more than make it slightly harder to eliminate them by jump or hammer. Paragoomba? Jump higher to get him. Spiked Goomba? Swing your hammer harder (Please don't try jumping). Any sub species of Goomba so far encountered fell quickly to either of these methods.

Summarized, the best method to exterminate these persistent creatures are to crush them beneath your feet or hammer. Sounds easy enough right? Take caution however, overconfidence can lead to mistiming your strikes, putting you in perfect range for contact with the creature which has been known to be lethal.
