Winter Break Club Celebration
The meeting/party will take place at a Shakey's (the location is still being decided) and everyone in the club is encouraged to attend. However it would be best if everyone brought some money ($10-15) in order to pay for all the food and play the games in the arcade. The meeting will take place sometime during the last week of winter break (the week of the 3rd to the 9th of January)
Stay tuned to the blog and the forums so you can get the info. If you have any questions or suggestions you can post them in the comments section of this post or post something in the forums

Orochon
I went to dinner with my family of three, and we went to Little Tokyo last night for ramen. We caught Man versus Food about a year ago, and finally went to Orochon Ramen, or Bravery Ramen, in the native tongue. They have 2 walls of bravery, and nine different levels of broth spice, where 7 isn't spiced, and 1 is the hottest, except for special 1 and 2, which 2 is the worst.
We each got something different, I got Orochon spicy Miso ramen with egg and chashu (not the Chinese kind), my mom got Soy Sauce Orochon spice with egg, bean sprouts, and chashu, and our third got a salt with extra noodles and green onions.
Personally, it was great to get out of the cold, and eat something spicy. The first bean sprout tingled, the broth was bordering hell. I'm lame, however, as they have a broth called "special 2", where if you finish it in half an hour, broth and all, you get your picture on the wall. For an extra couple quarters, you're asking for hurt.
Personally, I hated myself from dinner, as I had stomach pains all night, and woke up this morning prepared to eat something not spicy.
The menu is cheap, about ten dollars a person, for a large bowl of food, the building's near Temple Street, take a left from Roybal, and the wait is about half an hour. What you go for is to feel pain, you leave with pain, you go back to do it again. Easily found, there's parking below the plaza, and It's on the third floor, right above a curry/rice bowl place.
Avatar
Avatar is a sci-fi action movie that sucks you in, moreso if you see it in 3-D (I can't watch McDonalds commercials with it anymore). The basis is that you follow a cripple marine's life on Pandora, a moon near Jupiter. As white as the guy is (no offfense), his name is John, who is a twin of his brother Bill.
Bill is a scientist who has been genetically researching the native people on Pandora, and has created a hybrid between human and alien. He got rich, being a doctor in 2154. On the five year journey to Pandora, he was killed, so the marine has to take over.
How in the hell does a marine do such a thing? Well, as the name mentions, and as we're mostly all gamers, the hybrid is just a lifeless character. They're put on a military base looking for a rare ore, and a kilo is a quarter billion on Earth.
This brings us back to the marine, who makes a couple friends, and is put into a foamy coffin of sorts, where he is actively playing his brother's creation, a 10', blue semi-human with a long ponytail. Insanity partly, but you know that something's bound to happen.
Now, the movie goes on for about 3 hours, but it sucks you in with CGI, tons and tons. Basically, you end up with more CGI than you do the crew to make the movie. How this is balanced out is the high-quality of the animation, great story line, and the fact that if it wasn't CGI, we'd have actors in outfits that would make the $300 million movie a waste. It's a thrill ride, but we should all hope and pray natives don't fight our military with arrows, because they can pierce through bullet-proof vests faster than bullets. Many people die, and you'd cheer for the natives with arrows, not the guys with the guns.
For Gundam fans, you will see a lot of robots, people in oxygen support masks, and things getting blown up. There's also a lot of fantasy scenes, flight scenes, three to four battle scenes, and also see how corrupt the military is over nothing.
Overall, it's worth going to see, and worth the extra couple bucks to see it in 3-D, considering the guy who directed it also did Terminator 2 and Titanic. The music was able to set a good mood, the characters mostly to practically realistic, and the storyline was good up to the end, which you knew was coming. There isn't blood flying everywhere, but you can get attached to the characters until they die, where you feel bad for anyone who gets hit. Hope you change your mind about your holiday plans, as you go ditch your family and go watch a movie. Seriously, in high school, who wants to listen to your brother's annoying game, and your parent's banter when you can go view an enjoyable film with your friends.

Team Fortress 2- And the Winner is...
The GunBoats are boots that reduces self inflicted damage from explosive blasts, meaning it would have been extremely useful for both classes. You fought a good fight Demomen, but the Soldier can't be beat.
Of course, with all these new items that could change. The update is live today so players will be able to enjoy everything that has been revealed throughout the week!

Team Fortress 2- The End is Near
Soldier
The Soldier will receive The Equalizer, a pickaxe that will take the place of his shovel. The closer to death the Soldier is, the faster and stronger he gets making him a walking Grim Reaper of pick axe wielding doom. Losing is now an acceptable strategy.
The weapon taking the slot of his trusty shotgun isn't really a weapon, but a bugle named The Buff Banner. As the Soldier dishes out damage, a rage bar will fill. Once full, the Soldier can whip out The Buff Banner and let out a rally cry. For 14 seconds any allies that rally around your flag will deal mini-crits.
Demoman
The Demoman will receive The Scottish Resolve, a replacement for his original sticky bomb launcher. This sticky bomb launcher is much more tactical, allowing the Demoman to plant up to 16 bombs, and detonate different clusters at once, unlike the original sticky bomb launcher that set them off all at once. However, this weapon has a longer priming rate, making it less ideal for close combat.
As the war draws to a close, Demomen are behind by only around 14 thousand kills. Who will come out on top in this war?

Team Fortress 2- The Direct Hit
http://www.teamfortress.com/soldierupdate/index.htm#item_1
Unlike the old Rocket Launcher, The Direct Hit has a much smaller blast radius after a rocket hits, meaning you'll have hit your target directly, rather than the area around him. Thankfully, that's an easier task because The Direct Hit shoots 80% faster, and does more damage. For people that can REALLY aim, any hits made against a target in the air will be a guaranteed mini-critical.
Wow, with the speed this weapon fires, I'm gonna have to learn to aim at the enemy, rather than they're feet. I still like the Demoman's new weapons better though, because it creates an entirely new playing style for the defensive Demo. AND ITS A BLOODY CLAYMORE. Still, with more weapons to be revealed, we'll see who gets the better end of the deal.
Oh, and the kill gap between the Soldiers and Demos get smaller every day.
It currently stands at \
4923531 Soldiers killed to 5056134 Demomen killed

Team Fortress 2- The Eyelander
This Close Combat kit includes a haunted claymore thirsting for necks, the Eyelander (Reference to Highlander),which makes the Demoman stronger with every kill. This probably takes the place of the Demo's bottle melee weapon.
So the Eyelander.....maybe...
THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE
per team
The second weapons in this kit is The Charging Targe, a shield that will allow you to ram enemies and bludgeon your enemies to death. It also provides increased defensive, and boost the crits of the Eyelander. This shield will be an alternative to the Demo's sticky bomb launcher, which is really the Demo's best weapon.
These weapons are sure to provide the Demoman with a new interesting style of play, and there's still another weapon to be shown, and maybe a 4th if he wins the competition against the soldier. And c'mon he's Scottish, the claymore is only natural. Though instead of a shield, he should have used two swords like a real manly Scot.

WAR! Team Soldier vs. Team Demoman
Forget Team Edward and Jacob! Hell forget Team RED and Team BLU!
It's war as Team Fortress 2 is once again being updated. The shovel wielding Soldier class and the stick bomb launching Demoman class will be competing to obtain a 4th unlockable weapon at the end of the week. In addition, like most of the game's other updates, each class will get 3 new weapons as the week goes on. Soldier's are up by about 100k kills right now, though that can easily turn around. Valve sure knows how to turn people against each other.
They're also having a propaganda contest if any of you artistic folks are interested in getting in on that, even if you're not a fan of the game.
http://www.teamfortress.com/propaganda/submit.php
It'd be pretty awesome if one of you guys won it. Contest ends Thursday I think, when the update is supposed to go live.
Who are you siding with? The Black Scottish Cyclops, or the Screaming Eagle?

Megaman 10 coming to WiiWare
I know I'm supposed to be on a boycott, but this news about the my favorite boy in blue, Megaman was too good to pass up. Big thanks to Manny, Kim, Mr.Y, and Josh for their contributions though. Shame on everyone else. However, YOU could be the 5th poster, thus officially ending the boycott. DO IT.
Capcom is making another 8-bit addition to the Megaman series, like they did with Megaman 9, for the downloadable service on the Wii, Wiiware. It will most likely be available on the Xbox Live Arcade, and the PSN Network as well, though I haven't seen anything confirming that. Here are the details so far
- Mega Man is looking for a vaccine to fight Robotenza, which causes robots to overheat and go crazy
- You can play as Protoman right from the start!( In Megaman 9 you had to buy him as DLC.)
- There is a 3rd playable character, yet to be revealed.
- Sheep Man: Gives you the Thunder Wool weapon when you beat him
Hope no one goes BAWWWW about having to kill a sheep
- For non veterans of the series or people who prefer to not punch their T.V in a fit of rage, there will be an easy mode.
Pretty awesome eh? If Capcom doesn't make that artwork a poster, I will murder someone. I can also live out my dream of murdering robotic thunder spewing sheep.

Irisu Syndrome
Irisu Syndrome is a Japanese freeware puzzle game, created by a small team. The game stars Irisu Kyouko, a mysterious girl dressed in a raggedy bunny costume.
The gameplay is a bit difficult to figure out at first glance, and if you don't know what you're doing, your game will end notoriously fast.
Shapes of various colors and sizes will fall into the center area. In order to score points, shapes of the same color must hit one another while it's active, after which they break apart and disappear. However, if they are set on the ground without being activated and touching a shape of the color, you will lose health, represented by the pink bar at the bottom. It's constantly draining, but can be refilled by scoring points. Once your health runs out, the game is over.
Using your mouse, you can shoot up white blocks to lift the shapes up. The left mouse button will shoot up a regular block; right mouse button will shoot a faster one, launching the shapes higher. Any shape hit by these blocks or by another shape will activate and fall to the ground at a faster rate, but you can only destroy shapes when they are active by having them touch another shape of the same color.
The learning curve can be a bit steep, but once you get the hang of it, you may find it difficult to put the game down. The BGM playing during the game (which can be changed at the main menu by clicking on the title of the game) are also excellent, giving off a haunting atmosphere, a melancholic mood, or even an oddly cheerful feel.
As you play through the game, you can unlock various scenes involving a trio of university students out on a camping trip. Depending on your final top score, you can earn one of two endings.
Irisu Syndrome is addicting, has great music, and a very interesting plot, if you can grasp what's happening from the pictures. It is highly recommended that you try and aim to see both endings. You will shit bricks.
The game can be found here.
NOTE: Some parts of the game may require you to change your Regional Settings to Japanese.
Not for the faint of heart. Seriously.

5 of the Worst Ways A Movie Can End
1. It was all a dream
2. Goes to cut scene, then says "To be continued"
3. Ending the movie with the main character saying "But the story wasn't over" (Lord of The Rings). The series was long enough.
4. The main character was the killer the whole time.
5. (Possible Spoiler if your ever going to watch I am Legend) Last, makes me angry. If you ever saw the movie "I Am Legend" you know why. Will Smith sacrifices himself in the end of the movie so he could save that woman and her son, when the whole movie was based upon him surviving in a world of zombie-like creatures.

Well.
Let me inform you guys about Hatsune Miku from Vocaloids - which is a singing synthesizer application software created by the Yamaha Corporation.
Well this isn't exactly a review, it's more of a notice of some sort.
Well basically Miku is the main character in the series and is the most known and the most popular as well.
I enjoy the music, the fan made flash videos, and the character.

Cave Story Review
Make no mistake, even though this game is free the polish and quality of the game is just as good, even better than most games you would have to pay for.
Story 9/10
The action adventure genre rarely has a story one cares about, the only important part being told what to slaughter mercilessly.
Cave Story’s story is presented in a very lighthearted way, yet it manages to reflect very serious matters, including the cruelty of the world and how the weak are exploited. Very rarely does a game manage to make you seriously care about your character’s actions, but Cave Story does this magnificently. Should you get the bad ending, the player will feel remorse for what they failed to do and should have been able to do.
The basic plot is you, the character, are caught in the midst of a conflict taking place on a floating island. You must help the local inhabitants, Mimigas, against The Doctor who is seeking to use them as weapons. The characters are loveable, even the bad guys (who couldn’t love Balrog’s signature “Huzzah!”?). They’ll all grow on you, and when something bad happens to them in the plots, it’s hard not to feel bad for them.
Gameplay: 10/10
You begin the game with only the ability to move and jump. Soon enough though, you’ll acquire your first weapon a rather weak pistol. Throughout the game you get a variety of weapons, like a missile launcher, flame thrower, and even a sword you throw at the hoards of enemies. Sounds like basic stuff right? What sets it apart is the ability to level up a weapon, up to level 3, with experience points. You acquire these by defeating enemies and picking up the energy they drop. When a gun is upgraded, it gets stronger, the shooting animation changes, and some guns like the Bubbler just change the way you can use them. For example, at Level 3 the Machine gun is capable of letting you hover in the air should you shoot downwards. Adding to this, the player will lose experience points whenever they get hit, thus an incentive is made for the player to get better and learn enemy patterns.
Another plus is the fact that the weapons all operate differently, unlike other action games where the weapons are mostly the same, just having different strengths. The Bubbler really stands out, creating bubbles that eventually shoot out bullets when you let go of the fire button (Great for defensive purposes).
You begin the game with a mere 3 points of health, but as you progress thought the game you will find health upgrades, along with missile capacity upgrades, to beef up your strength. Some are somewhat hidden to reward curious players.
You progress through the game by passing areas that slowly open up to you, in a manner similar to the Metroid series. The game is mostly story driven, with your character being told where to go, so getting lost shouldn’t be much of an issue. You’ll usually be dropped in an area and be told to look for your objective, which leaves a sense of exploration for the player.
You’ll definitely need your platforming skills for this game. You’ll be jumping over spikes, landing on floating platforms, and be quick to avoid instant death traps. The game is very fair, never being too hard, and the traps will be obvious to anyone who is aware of their surroundings.
Graphics: 8/10
The graphics in this game are a hit or miss. I am personally judging it for its emulation of old school 8/16 bit graphics. The sprites in this game are wonderful, yet could be better by today’s standards. The terrain and backgrounds are lovely and extremely well done.
The weapon effects are done well. The lasers look like standard laser beams, the Fireball weapon’s fire gets more and more extravagant as it levels, and so on. The Player will have fun seeing what effects the weapons have when first acquiring them.
Lovers of retro gaming will adore the graphics, while those used to the new detailed 2-d sprites games use nowadays might be a little put off.
Music: 10/10
Another area where Cave Story excels. The soundtrack for this game is amazing, and should you download the game it already comes with it for free.
Like the graphics, the music is reminiscent of old school games, with each track complimenting its respective area greatly. This helps add to the atmosphere of the game, and draws the player in during important moments like the player’s return to the Mimigia village much later in the game.
Overall: 10/10 *
Cave Story is a game that excels in all areas. With the added bonus of being free, its very hard to argue for a reason not to at least try it.
The story’s subtle deepness will draw you in, and the gameplay will keep you alert and interested in reaching your next plot objective. The replay value of the game is really up to the player, especially if you want to go for the best ending, which is doubtful you’ll get on your own the first time around. After your first time, you’ll be able to go through the game relatively quickly, in about 4 hours.
So make your next game Cave Story. It’s truly a unique wonderful experience that wins on so many levels.
*not an average of separate scores*

Reviews
Odrakyr- Touhou EoSD (I know I'm playing P4, but i wont finish in time and i don't want to rush it)
For those who don't know here's a preview of Touhou
Tomorrow's Agenda
1. The Ice Breakers- The drawing idea seems like a good one so well go with that. This has to go fast and shouldn't take more than 5-7 minutes.
2. Technological Acquaintances- We will introduce the blog and the twitter to the rest of the group. There will also be talk of a new position created, a technological designer. As you may have noticed both our blog and our twitter look BORING. Another thing that has to be done during this segment is the creation of the email list. In order to reach everyone, and have everyone reach us, we need to create an email list, its from this list that assignments will be turned in, agendas confirmed...
3. Halloween Activity- This will take up at least 20 mins and we need to kinda cut that in half. We know it will be a game room but we don't know what type. If any other ideas are brought up we'll take that into consideration
4. Reviews- First assignments will be handed out. Pick something that you know relatively well for your first review
5. Game/Anime Day- We should get started on deciding when our first, of many, game/movie/anime day will be. We should decide what game/anime to watch. I doubt well be able to see a full length movie during lunch
Hopefully we'll be able to get through all of this tomorrow
