Pages from Professor Gaffer’s Bestiary

Report #1: Vlad Tepes, The Evil Lord Dracula

Evening ladies and gents! In the spirit of Halloween, I figure its the perfect time to unveil a new series of articles in which I share with you pages from my own personal Bestiary. Do not discount any information given in these reports as hypothetical drama. Every ounce of knowledge has been gained through hard-won research, and experience. Historical data, lab experiments, field research, and eyewitness accounts have all served to create this Bestiary.

Lets begin with one of the most evil beings to have walked this earth shall we?

Dracula. Lord of the Vampires, King of the Night. Don't let his beautifully cold face and high sense of fashion fool you. He is the very embodiment of evil, rising time and time again since the middle ages to threaten the world with his might and armies. Once a military tactician known as Mathias Cronqvist, he renounced God after the death of his wife Elizabetha and became Count Dracula.
Records indicate he later learned to love again, with woman named Lisa Farenhiets, a relationship which produced a son, Adrian Farenheits Tepes who would eventually take on the name Alucard and oppose his father. Lisa would have her life taken at the hands of a mob who saw her healing medicine as witchcraft.
His evil nature and disdain of humanity can thus be attributed to the loss of the women he loved, and the estranged relationship with his son.

His enemies include the Belmont family and their allies, such as the Morris and Quincey Families. The Belmonts have been hunting Dracula down ever since Leon Belmont swore to hunt the night and forever vanquish him, a goal yet to be accomplished at the time of this writing.

His source of power seems to stem from the Crimson Stone he obtained during his time as Mathias. He tricked his old comrade Leon Belmont into defeating the vampire Walter Bernhard, after which his soul was sealed into Mathias' Crimson Stone.
This device, most likely of alchemical origin, seems to channel the spirit of a slain vampire giving the power to whoever wields it. This seems to present an interesting paradox; when slain, does the dark lord's own power return directly to him seeing as he is the owner? If the dark lord is ever to be vanquished permanently, this Stone will have to be destroyed, as it most likely the reason for his countless resurrections throughout time. This foul device is the reason he returns every 100 years, though premature resurrections have been known to happen.

An important thing to note; when facing the dark lord, pay attention to his appearance. He appears to age backwards. In other words, the younger he appears, the close he is to full power. Sometimes, you CAN judge a book by its appearance.

A list of his powers can be summarized as follows
-Immortality
-Invulnerability: Dracula seems immune to most convential weapons. Only a few measures and weapons have been known to work.
- Shapeshifting: He has been known to assume the forms of wolves, bats, and mist
Transformation: When the situation grows dire, Dracula has transformed into monstrous demonic beasts in order to subdue his opponets.
-Teleportation
-Dominance: Dracula has power over the souls of monsters, which can explain his vast armies of fearsome creatures.
Though it appears he has gained immortality throughout his time as a vampire, he has been defeated time and time again.

He is immune to the conventional methods of normal vampire disposal such as holy water and would most likely just serve to induce his wrath.
The only weapon to have been proven to consistently destroy him, is the fabled holy whip, the Vampire Killer.

The Vampire Killer is a whip created through alchemy, given the power to destroy all creatures of the night related to vampires by taking the life of a tainted soul willing to give up its soul. Leon Belmont was the first to wield the whip, even before it got its power. He took the life of his beloved Sara Trantoul to unlock its full potential, and form then on the whip was passed down to his descendants in hopes of one day truly defeating Dracula. The whip has immense power, even capable of beating the physical embodiment of Death.

A report recovered from the archives of the Order of Ecclisia, tells of a woman named Shanoa who wielded the power of Dominus. Dominus was Dracula's own power converted into spell form, and would take the life of its user.
It is assumed Shanoa succeded in her mission to destroy Dracula, but no records indicate whether or not she survived.

Direct member of the Belmont family are the only ones capable of using the whip without repercussions, evidenced by John Morris, after the whip came into his family's possession . His life was drained away from prolonged use of the whip ,though he was successful in defeating Dracula temporarily.

Dracula's right hand man is none other than the Grim Reaper himself. He has proven himself the most loyal servant of the Dark Lord's minions, and has stood in the way of all his enemies. An unknown alliance ties them together, ever since the days of Mathias Cronqvist. When Dracula rises, one can be sure to find Death lurking in his presence. If one hopes to fight Dracula, there is no doubt they would have to get past Death first.

Where exactly does the dark lord reside? how can one be sure he has returned?
Every time Dracula rises again, the castle from where he wages his war on humanity rises as well. Known as Castlevania, this castle appears to mark the return of the Evil Lord. Here all manner of evil lies in wait of any who enter, with Dracula waiting in the throne room at the top of the castle for any who dare to challenge him. No effort has been made to map the castle, and there is no consisten report of what they layout is like, only that Dracula resides at the top. With such conflicting reports of the interior of the castle, it is suspected that the castle interior changes with each return of Dracula.

Sadly, there is not much normal people can do against Dracula's might. However, rest assured readers, that when Dracula rises, so will the Belmont family. Even in their absence, other clans and organizations have risen to take their place and continue the fight the Evil Lord. Time and time again, Dracula will return to this earth, only to be forced back into the shadows again by these brave souls. There will always be someone to oppose the Dark Lord, until the Belmont family succeeds in its oath to destroy Count Dracula one and for all.

i enjoyed the article, and i think the visuals were a nice touch; i do, however, have a few questions: *why did the belmont family take it into their hands to destroy dracula?
*dracula and leon belmont were once comrades, why did the relationship go awry?
*why did his son Adrian aka Alucard oppose him?
*how would you get past death?
*why does dracula return time and time again if almost no one goes against him?
*is the belmont family also vampires?
these were just off the top off my head, and frankly i didnt know much about dracula so i did learn A LOT of new things. who knew there was more to vampires than just sparkling. haha, twilight joke. no, but seriously, i loved the article. wait, so dracula counts as a monster?

why, again, does dracula want to destroy humanity?

  4. 1) Sara was captured by Mathias, and beacase of that, was bitten by Walter Bernhard. Thus knowing she would soo turn into a vampire, she willingly gave her life up to give the Vampire Killer its power. Leon would then swear the Belmont family to its seemingly impossible task.
    2)see above
3)Alucard inherited his mother's kindness and would oppose his father because his mother would not have wanted Dracula to take the path of evil. Alucard is an ally of the Belmont family. Notice Alucard is Dracula backwards, a testament to his opposition to following in his father's footsteps.
    3) Death cn be beaten with the Vamire Killer as said in the article, and through other means such as holy weapons and magic you would use to defeat vampires.
4)Unclear on question. He will return because he is "immortal" and will constantly seek to destroy humanity.
    5) The Belmont family are not vampires. They became freakishly strong humans, perhaps an effect of the vow of Leon Belmont. They were feared for their power, and forced into exile from Wallachia, where the Dark Lord is usually resurrected. However, their name became respected again when Trevor Belmont defeated Dracula, being the first one to do so, because Leon never actually fought his old friend.
    5) Well not a race of monster per say, but he most certainly is a "monster" if you get my meaning.
    6) Only one
7)Well at first he simply wanted to oppose God, blaming him for the death of his wife.
Eventually he learned to love again, but once again his love was taken, this time by a mob of humans. That was the day he swore to master his dark powers and wage war on humanity.
